Meanwhile in Texas...

I figured there is always something going on in Texas and we needed our own thread.

There are wacky politics, lots of illegals, diminishing number of rednecks, lots of wild hogs, lots of stupid folk, lots of deer, ducks and geese galore in the winter, decent fishing and an ever increasing flock of SJWs trying to escape the housing prices and taxes in California. They ruined California, so now they want to ruin Texas.

So maybe albrecht and I can keep this thread populated with stuff.

"Steven Boehle, who is accused of plotting a mass shooting on his 50th birthday, will be released from custody on an unsecured $10,000 bond. U.S. Judge Mark Lane made clear his reluctance to issue the bond, but said prosecutors failed to prove Boehle posed a threat to the community."  :o
I don't care if he was stoned, or is a stoner, someone who just ponders that a mass shooting would be a nice way to celebrate his 50th birthday doesn't need to be on the streets! Judge Lane makes it seem like his use of weed is more of a problem than threatening a mass shooting birthday party!  :o

For those of you that like to read about Space, the JSC Roundup is now a quarterly publication. It used to be a monthly or biweekly newspaper for all activities at Johnson Space Center. I am sure my name and picture are in a few back issues, but I have never searched for them.

Here is a link to all of the archives going back to 1961.

Ha! I spent my summers in Texas as a child, and I'm old enough to remember when "Republican" was a dirty word there (before the Bushes). I always thought Texas women were way ahead of the curve when it came to women's rights, and saw their leadership as a positive influence on the state, as well a being largely responsible for the 'Don't mess with Texas' attitude. Unpretentious, fiery and outspoken women like Molly Ivins and Ann Richards were my heroines.

Not crazy about the Bushes but not crazy about those two either.

I had much more respect for Barbara Jordon than I did Ann Richards. Never liked Ann Richards. As governor. She has admitted in public she had an alcohol problem. There are a lot of rumors that alcohol wasn't her only problem. I gained some respect for her after she left office after hearing some talks she gave.

Barbara Jordon is the one that strikes me as the strong Texas woman though. I heard her speak when I first moved down here. Great lady.

Yes, Barbara Jordon too. I think folks in public office like Ann Richards who struggle with their own inner demons, gain public support and empathy from being honest with their constituents. Look at the imbalance of men and women in government today, it couldn't have been easy for Richards being a woman in power in a state like Texas.

Newspapers in Texas never used to be politically correct.

Seems to me that once someone is found guilty and then sentenced based on that guilty verdict, they are no longer "alleged" to be anything. What am I missing?

This could go in the SJW thread

Don't stereotype Messicans.
I'm so happy I was in school before the SJWs and various minority pressure groups had taken over society and there wasn't documentation of all activities and events via camera phones, social media site, and the like.
Meanwhile in Houston:
"A Houston pimp known as "Gorgeous Black" was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison for forcing a teenage runaway into prostitution. "

You posted this story earlier and it is pretty bizarre. Here is the time line of the Austin cop who tried to fake his own death, in an "elaborate ruse," and move to Mexico.

Molly was pretty cool.

Not as bad as the stuff in the old days when there was an actual rapist breaking into homes in the area but the Hyde Park, a fairly tony neighborhood north of UT campus, has some guy going around slapping women on the butt and then running away. Multiple assaults. Weird. This article calls in groping but other news accounts say slapping. Still an assault or battery.

As an aside the neighborhood is interesting because on some of the streets you have small houses, I lived there for a while years ago, and on the other streets huge, historic mansions. The small houses were for the servants, drivers, and maids in the old days. Now even the 'servant's quarters' small houses most have been remodeled, expanded or modernized and sell for $.

Miss Black UT (I didn't even know there was a beauty contest, much less segregated) is criticized for not being "black enough."

Thanks, ACLU, you pack of commies.

Roads are too crowded anyways. I hope they wrote up a copy of their press release in Spanish and sent it to Mexican and Central American news outlets.

Heh, heh, heh.  Most definitely.

One can hope... though I don't know why it is appropriate for another country's government officials to help illegals continue to break the law. And brag about it.

Keeps them from returning to Honduras and becoming their own issue.

This is why we need term limits and why I did everything I could to support a Tea Party candidate in the primary last year. I left that box blank in the election instead of voting for this McCain wannabe.
