Political Musak

Started by pate, January 23, 2017, 12:48:01 AM

I have Oscar Brand's CD of every campaign song from 1789 to 1996. Not all of them are hits by any means, but they're a fun, quirky part of political history that often expressed the popular sentiment of the time in impolite ways. Here's a little medley, and many if not all are on YT.

TR absolutely demolishes Winston Churchill in one of the harshest ass whippings of the entire run.

It gets so bad, that near the end Churchill actually helps Teddy by bringing up the bullet to the chest that TR shrugged off.

Some nice scenes of the America I grew up with as well...

Ironically, he "didn't give a rap about being shot".

If you prefer bawdy sea shanties to political campaign songs, Oscar Brand has that covered, too.

Ha!  I think I might order the TR T-Shirt from this episode.  It was a really well done vid

This may actually belong in the Pizzagate thread, but I'm holding off on mercilessly bumping that for now, because wtf I hate pizza now.

This is my favorite political rock song from that era because the lyrics aren't specific to it, and were written from the unique perspective of an East German refugee who spent his childhood in West Germany, his teen and early adult years in Toronto, and found fame and fortune in the USA. If that's not the American dream, wake up and smell the Sanka.

Here's a blast from the past for you, pate.

...

I love that song, not played enough, nor is it's natural ground pounder companion:

Thank you all, good ones!

I actually stopped by leave this:

I thought somebody might find that useful mood music to put on their iPod to listen to while they engage in some good ol' 'murican civil disobedience...

Cheers!

It's the only political song that comes to mind at the moment.

Ha- You beat me to it- I was going to post that one, too. Also one of my favorites. Thanks, Pate.  :)

For a change of pace- here's one on consumerism and the environment:

I'm surprised there haven't been more contributions to this thread, and that it took me so long to think of posting a Tom Lehrer tune or two.

I had to do a double take.  For a moment, I was wondering why Trudeau did not get a trim and who picked out those stupid glasses for him.  :o
