I finally made it to the episode 100 parodies. Hilarious! Well done, Stan.  8)
Thank you, I try.

Funny!

I was listening to an old Dreamland, I think, and Hoaggie references Mr. Rodgers and I immediately say out loud, "You forgot to say that he was you good friend!"
It's like a nervous tick now, and we're trained that if we don't hear it, something's wrong.

T+25min into the actual interview: First mention I caught of Arthur C. Clark.  Though not "my good friend."
#217
RCH:  "I could go on for hours."

They should actually read the Jones Act. They are talking out their arse. Foreign ships can stop and offload in Puerto Rico. They cannot onload there and continue to a mainland port.
Sorry, are you complaining that RCH and someone on his show are making things up?  Heavens to Murgatroyd!

Was it Ceres that had those bright spots?  Did they ever figure it out?

To watch the new Trek, Dick will have to subscribe to CBS All Access.  Which means Robin will have to raise his allowance.  She's probably not inclined to do that until Dick finds steady work.
He could always πrat it like a normal leech.

Damn, I knew I should've waited an hour and edited.  "guests" should be "callers"

Open e-mail to Jimmy.  I'll let you know if he replies.

QuoteHi Jimmy,

On Coast to Coast, you asked why people keep taking doomsday things seriously.  I think I know the answer, but I don't think you'll like it: Because of the paranormal shows that present doomsday and related claims uncritically.

Shows such as Coast to Coast, etc.. give guests practically free reign to make their claims while the hosts tend to either agree (George often says "of course," "exactly right," and similar statements just after something outlandish is said) or to lob soft-ball questions which the guests either don't answer or answer with information that is simply wrong.

Take Gordon James Gianninoto.  His claims seemed finally too over-the-top for you or for even some guests about planets being perfectly stationary, but after about the third or fourth time (I lost track) of being asked "but what about [insert phenomenon that requires us to be in orbit]?" his response was special pleading: The space aliens are faking everything in our skies, climate, weather patterns, etc. to make it SEEM like we're still in motion around the sun.  And that was that.

Take Marshall Masters: He has been on C2C over a dozen times over more than a dozen years and each time says Planet X will bring death and destruction about 1-2 years away.  Each time he's brought back on, he's not made to account for his false statements before but is allowed to continue to give his doom and gloom scenario and set another date and people call in scared.

So, again, why are people scared and why do they take doomsday prognostications seriously?  I think a large part is because of the uncritically presented material by people who promote them on mass media.

Sincerely,
Stuart

He's probably busy sending angry faxes to the Star Trek: Discovery producers claiming that he knew Gene Roddenberry and must be made a consultant, that Gene was his good friend.  And Cronkite, and Arthur C. Clark, etc.

Has a surprise end.

Does anyone know what year Hoagland was made Science Advisor (or rather, "Science" Advisor) on Coast?

I know he was advertising the the Chichen Itza scam on Coast in 2012 and got the chop in 2015 (I dimly recall his abrupt departure had something to do with a bet Hoagland made with Noory that Hoagland would not shut up about).

I can't seem to find any mention of what year he began work, though.  :(
It should correlate reasonably well (±1 year?) with when Phil Plait was last on, for Phil told me that he told George et al he would not go back on the show if RCH was "science" advisor.

No, for 33 cents a day, it's about the 19.5 subscriber.
They say 33¢/day, but in reality, it's a minimum of $1/show IF he managed to do a live one every weekend and for that rare ~1 in 7 chance of a 30-day month starting on a Saturday or a 31-day month starting on a Friday or Saturday; otherwise, it's >$1/show.

* is something, or everything, attributed to God even an hypothesis? Can it be tested or nullified? How could one even run the test? Heck even in purely logical, philosophical, speculative, abstract thought, etc you run in to problems about the "god question." (I'm not knocking religion or belief but simply if certain statements can be evaluated scientifically, according to our modern ideas of process at least.)
If a hypothesis is not falsifiable, it's not a scientific hypothesis.  "Goddidit" is not falsifiable, therefore it's not a scientific hypothesis.  I was more correcting Dr. MD MD's statement that it's a "theory."

And I'm sure it's all in "the model."  ::)

My brain has come to automatically translate that to sciencey in order to avoid that pain.  ;)
Is that like "chocolatey" for things that don't have real chocolate in them, or "Froot loops" because there's no fruit in them (and they get to have the googley eyes for the "OO" in two words)?

Richard Hoagland just accused other people of making things up to fit their own pre-conceived ideas.  That is all.

Hoagie's show tomorrow night might be better:

Carmen is crazy. I remember listening to her years ago on C2C with my ex (no, not a reason they're my ex now).  At one point, Carmon claimed the ancient Egyptians fully understood string theory.  That was when I was made to turn off the audio.

I recently discovered your most excellent shows and really enjoy them. I love how you scientifically shine a bright 'ol spotlight into the dark world of the paranormal hucksters. Bravo sir!
Thanks!

OMFG RCH is so full of himself!  He mentioned he was on the "Den of Lore" podcast and so I downloaded it, and after not being on for 20 minutes because of his own technical difficulties, he goes on and spends several minutes telling the host that the host is "over-modulated" even though his sound is perfectly fine.  And reminded the host during his bio that he was science advisor to Cronkite.

RCH later plays teacher and asks the host if he knows what astrocartography is.  Host answers correctly.  RCH says he's wrong and proceeds to give the bullshit astrological definition.

And later, he tried to argue that the EM drive works on pyramid power (hyperdimensional torsion field physics) because a cone is just a pyramid without the side corners.  Yes, he just argued that cone = pyramid.

I'm listening in spurts as I work on other stuff, but golly gee wiz this guy is just an ass, even when he's a guest.

good replay tonight.
How do you know what the replays are?  I can't find bupkiss on his FB page nor his new website.  I'm trying to fill in the 2017 catalog in my recordings because of various software issues.  I even missed the eclipse one because I was trying to get back from Wyoming ... and my next podcast episode is going to be about modern eclipse pseudoscience!

Today is the birthday of Hoagie's purported pal Gene Roddenberry (born in 1921) - will he remember to mention this tonight? ;)
His Dear Friend, Gene Roddenberry?  I'm not sure how Dear Friend Gene Roddenberry could be forgotten on Dear Friend Gene Roddenberry's birthday, considering that Dear Friend Gene Roddenberry was such a Dear Friend to richard c. hoagland.  Dear Friend.
