Thanks for the many years of entertainment, Art.  See you on the other side.

Hello Lonevoice!  Nice to hear your sweet dulcet tones (so to speak).

While most of my memories of Art will come from the giant file I've kept of his great episodes, and of listening to him live from 1990ish on, all the promo's by Jaz and others are a good memory from 2013-2016.  Thanks again Jazz for all that work.

I'm really feeling sad, for a whole host of reasons.

Also sad that it took this to come back to BellGab.

But, we already did contact....I mean, we already worked that bolt....we ..... we listened to the roll call of affiliates that were joining the Bellgab army...the panzers were rolling baby....we witnessed the fall of a good portion of the West coast to the Bell army .....we were gonna take it all....we were gonna take back the night.....after a day on the front lines, we'd gather by the fires and .....And then......

And then.....

Very bittersweet....both the sentiment and the song.  And very true.

Yeah, the whole network crashes in one night.  Well, there was buildup to this one night, but it seems over, and
over quickly.   RCH may be full of crap, but he shoots from the hip with what he thinks is right.

RCH is done as well.  Notes that Art Bell had to quit due to the "incidents" and gunfire, and permanently retire.  Mentions Walter Conkrite,
of course, and that with Art gone DMDN will be gone without Art's support.  Game over.

Falkie, what has happened to you to open a thread up like this?  Are you an evil moron? Let's discuss.

This is so surreal.  Art's shortest quit, and maybe his shortest stay.  Or not.  This is Bizzaro World.

More barracks lawyers show up.....

This is not always true.

When I was in the Army, there were referred to as "shit-house lawyers."

(Redacted) hasn't posted here in weeks. Subtle disassociation... or new company policy, perhaps?

(And how soon they forget the 'little people' they've left behind.) :'(  :'(

Redacted is just being wise.  When you are behind the curtain, it is hard to post and not go down
the slippery slope of inappropriate disclosure.

Plus, she has a full-time job.

After that last interview, you whet my appetite for a good interview with a "Jack the Ripper" scholar.
Please get a better one!   :)   You did a fine job with this one, but his knowledge of the London crimes
was a little lacking. To be polite.

And, to be clear, I meant London, England, not London, somewhere else.

What is this playing now? There's nothing wrong with it. It's actually pretty good but, it woke me up.
Edit: http://inceptionradionetwork.com/paddy-fievet-making-of-a-mystic/

Gotta say, as someone with low expectations for RCH's show, I'm pleasantly surprised.

I have to agree.  I heard most of the first two shows, and vowed not to come back.  Then I heard some good word of mouth, came back, and am more than pleasantly surprised.  Who'd of thunk it?  RCH can do a good interview, can let the guest speak, and is witty and intelligent (when he wants to be).  I fear I may be paying for another Podcast.

I'm going to congratulate Redacted, not for her new position, but the fact that since she assumed it she has been doing a GREAT JOB!  Wonderful guests overall!  And I expect it to get better.

But get Les Stroud.  Or how about Nathan Filion?  He has some great TV/Sci Fi stories (and no, I am not Canadian).

Never mind my last post.  I just did what I should have done before posting, and did a quick search for an Art interview of Gaimon.  Found no trace of one, so it must never have occurred.  As we all know, the internet is always right.

One would hope Neil has an idea of who Art is. That could help in booking him.

Maybe my memory is shot, but wasnt Neil Gaimon once interviewed by Art? Its possible
I'm thinking of an interview someone else did of Gaimon, but I could have sworn......Oops,
Art doesn't llike swearing, so I take that back.

One difference between the technical issues before with Dark Matter and the technical issues now is back then they were beyond Art's control at Sirius.  It's got to be a lot less frustrating for him to know that, while annoying, he has the power to address and fix them

Excellent point!  That is why I can look at the existing technical issues with complacency, as I am reasonably confident they will be taken care of, one day at a time.

While like all of you I follow the financial/viability status of MITD closely, I think the worries over the state of the show are overblown.  Remember, if money was the big concern (and White Crow is right, it is always a concern), Art would have taken a modified radio package with the various radio stations, and opened up the financial spigots a bit.  But the price is less freedom, and a less friendly show from the listener's perspective.  And not, apparently, what Art wants to do.

I am not particularly worried about the survivability of MITD.  Art should take some of the marketing/publicity ideas being offered, as there are some great ones, and this would pick up the pace of the show's growth.  I would guess things have slowed down a bit more in the show's growth than they hoped, but those ideas should be enough alone to get show growth going at a more acceptable level.  DMDN's numbers on TunedIn have about doubled since MITD began, which is ok, but realistically I had hoped it would be up to 75,000 by now, and even 100,000 in my wildest dreams.  Currently it stands at nearly 58,000.

For me its more about keeping Art happy in his "job," for if that continues we'll keep getting shows.  For that reason I am more worried about technological issues, but I am reasonably sure Art, Keith and others will slowly sort through them and correct them one by one.  But the BellGab crowd can help things by continuing to make suggestions, for it is abundantly clear to all on this site that Art, Keith and certainly Redacted all read these posts (or sklm through them), and occasionally take them to heart.  Art is well aware he has a partially tapped pool of "idea people" out here, who do work for free, so we should keep the ideas, and even the complaints, coming.

Guests seem a bit better lately, to me, but I like a lot of tech subjects.  While I was disappointed in the Robbins interview, when I expected a good UFO show, that seems to be the exception and not the rule for Robbins personally (I usually like the guy) and the show.  Art seems willing to branch out and take new avenues, the Rogan interview being an example, and I expect this to continue.  If there is one area I do not worry about, it is the quality of Art's skills.

As I used the term "golden age" myself recently in regard to MITD, I of course agree this is the
Golden Age of Art Bell!

May Art live long, and prosper!  As will we, by getting to listen to the gradually growing archive.
Soon it will be larger than Dark Matter's, if it is not already, and there is no signs that it will not
end up MUCH larger.

I appreciate your position Art.

Besides, if things keep going the way they are, these stations, as big as they are, will come back
to you at a future date.  No reason to do anything but stick to your guns.

For my submission as guests:

Les Stroud - The "Survivorman." He can cover the outdoors, survival, animal stories, his music background,
living off the grid, and his various stories on Bigfoot.

Joe Rogan - Art needs to go into the sensory deprivation chamber at Rogan's place, as could Rogan, and
they could recount and compare their stories.  One could imbibe some cannibus (Rogan) and one would
not (Art).  Maybe Aldous could go as a BellGab reporter, and take something stronger and go in the chamber
as well!

Harry Turtledove - I second Uncle Duke's recommendation.  Turtledove is fascinating on alternate history
stuff, and is indeed quite eccentric.  Who knows what gems Art could get from him?

Lovecraft - Well, I mean an expert on Lovecraft, should his death make him unavailable, as his life and his
stories are fascinating and eerie.

Edgar Mitchell - I second several recommendations.  The guy is in his 80's, fascinating, nearing his demise,
and more than willing to spill his secrets (or his dotage, take your pick).  But the guy is a hero on many levels.

You know what I really like?  Being backlogged with work (well, I don't like that part so much), selecting a classic from the Art Bell archive to listen to while I work, and being able to choose from a show taped just two days ago.  Not two years, or 20.

This is the Golden Age of Art Bell.  $5/month?  Best money I've ever (legally) spent

Isnt it true that there is telescopic and satellite imagery pinpointing the lunar landings, including Apollo 11?  From multiple sources in multiple countries or from multiple satellites?

To believe the "We didnt land on the Moon" theory, we would have had to go back later and set up the moon lander artifacts to mimic a landing that did not occur years earlier?Far more unlikely than any other scenario.

Hello Lonevoice!

If you are right, you deserve the gold star.  But let's face it, in life we rarely get the gold star when we deserve it.  But YOU will know you do, and that's all that counts.

I like the mystery guest status as well.  If its a great guest, so much the better.  And if not, its still Art Bell hosting, and that's great too!

I'm hoping it's a guy who decides on a Monday that Art Bell should be interviewed by John Bachelor, heard live on several hundred terrestrial stations, streamed on iHateArt radio, and four days later makes it happen.  Maybe a guy who has a proven track record of procuring his own guests, ones that deliver engaging interviews of the sort that Art Bell fans appreciate.

Yeah, that guy.  That's who I'd pick if he was available, and count myself lucky indeed.

A lot of smart people posting comments on BellGab lately.......  I'd second that choice, though its probably more like 32nd that choice......
